EPA Repeals Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Units

June 18th, 2025 by Ann Rippe

Proposed Rule
Summary: EPA is proposing to repeal all greenhouse gas emission standards for the NSPS for Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Units (40 CFR 60, Subpart TTTT and 40 CFR 60, Subpart TTTTa) based on the proposed finding that GHG emissions from fossil fuel-fired power plants do not significantly contribute to dangerous air pollution. Alternatively, EPA is proposing a more limited repeal, targeting emissions guidelines for existing fossil fuel-fired steam units, and carbon capture and sequestration/storage-based standards for both modified coal-fired units and new base load stationary combustion turbines.
