Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board Finalizes New Accidental Release Reporting Requirements for Stationary Sources

February 21st, 2020 by Ann Rippe

New Material
Summary: The Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) is finalizing a rule requiring owners or operators of stationary sources to submit an accidental release report to the CSB in the event of an unanticipated emission of a regulated substance or other extremely hazardous substance from the stationary source into the ambient air which results in a fatality, serious injury or substantial property damage. The required report must be submitted to CSB within eight hours of the accidental release and contain specified information about the release. If a report has been submitted to the NRC for the accidental release, the CSB reporting requirement may be satisfied by submitting the NRC identification number to the CSB within 30 minutes of submitting the report to the NRC.
