PHMSA Amends Safety Standards for Underground Natural Gas Storage Facilities

Summary: The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is amending the pipeline safety regulations applicable to underground natural gas storage facilities (UNGSFs). This action is in response to comments and recommendations received on PHMSA’s interim final rule (IFR) published on December 19, 2016 (81 FR 91860) which established minimum safety standards for depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs, aquifer reservoirs, and solution-mined salt caverns used for the storage of natural gas.
