Creating EHS Compliance Calendars That Work Learn More
As globalization increases, it has become common for industrial organizations to maintain operations across international borders. For EHS managers, who are tasked with managing compliance activities and keeping workers safe, this presents unique challenges related to workplace culture and overall communications. Because Dakota Software serves a global EHS community, we have been hard at work on a solution that addresses these challenges and are pleased to announce that our latest release features multi-language capabilities.
While Dakota has supported global clients with dual language regulatory coverage and multi-language User Interface customizations for years, this latest update is the first to the make multi-language translation generally available to all clients. It includes support for Latin character sets (used in languages such as Spanish, German, and French) and utilizes Google Translate to translate field labels, buttons, and dialogue text to the language set in the user's internet browser (users have the ability to override this using a language selector switch if desired). Clients also have the option to activate non-Latin sets (used in languages such as Greek, Cyrillic, and Arabic) pending review of any unique configurations to their account.
What does this mean for Dakota customers? In general, implementation and training for non-English speakers should be easier than ever. When reporting incidents and injuries, users will interact with menus and prompts in their native language. Dakota Auditor clients who use multi-language versions of international protocols should have more confidence in their sites to conduct self assessments by presenting both the protocols and menu commands in the users native language. Additionally, facility staff who complete action items in Tracer will benefit from the language translation, especially when facility managers write tasks in a language commonly spoken at that facility.
These multi-language capabilities are a part of Dakota’s overall Internationalization strategy (sometimes referred to as "I18N , meaning "I - eighteen letters -N") which will allow clients to adapt ProActivity to specific local languages, units of measurement, currency, and other factors (a process called localization).
